This discussion will assess the performance and prospects for the euro as it enters its second decade. The financial crisis has sparked renewed debate in non-eurozone countries – from Poland to Iceland – on the merits of joining the single currency. While euro membership has been seen as a bulwark against the currency storms that have battered other European countries since the crisis broke, the underlying tensions within the eurozone persist. Will the recession diminish or exacerbate them?
