War Crimes in Sri Lanka
The Centre in partnership with the International Crisis Group is organising a panel discussion on War Crimes in Sri Lanka featuring a presentation of the findings of the recent International Crisis Group’s report on this issue.
One year after the end of Sri Lanka’s 30 year civil war, the country is still dealing with the consequences of the conflict. The victory of the Sri Lankan security forces over the Tamil Tigers came at the cost of immense civilian suffering and an acute challenge to the laws of war. The panel will discuss the role Europe can play in supporting Sri Lanka’s transition to peace, while ensuring proper accountability for past abuses by all sides.
Speakers include Nick Grono, Deputy President of the International Crisis Group, and Lotte Leicht, Director of the Brussels office of Human Rights Watch. The discussion will be moderated by Nailia Dindarova, The Centre.
