EASAC Publication Launch
Climate Change and Infectious Diseases in Europe
The Centre is hosting the launch of a new statement by the European Academies Science Advisory Council entitled Climate Change and Infectious Diseases in Europe.
The impact of climate change on health has received comparatively little public or political attention, which is something this statement from EASAC helps to remedy. This new publication describes some of the scientific evidence available to characterise the impact of climate change on the transmission and distribution of human and animal infectious disease in Europe. There is a clear need for concerted action by the policy-makers at both European Union and national levels because infectious disease, like climate change and economic disruption, does not stop at borders. This new statement from EASAC outlines the evidence on the link between climate change and infectious diseases, and makes a series of clear recommendations to policy-makers and others, on how to prepare for, and respond to, these new challenges.
Speakers at the event will include Prof. Dr. Volker ter Meulen, the Chairman of EASAC, Pēteris Zilgalvis, J.D., Head of Unit, Infectious Diseases, Directorate -Health Research, Research Directorate General, and Monika Kosinska, Secretary General of European Public Health Alliance.
The discussion will be moderated by Piotr Nowinski of The Centre
