The Global Race for Clean Energy and Technology:

Will Europe Stay Ahead of the US and China?

27 May 2010

While the EU still has the leadership position in CleanTech and low carbon technologies and production, the fast pace of the global battle for competitiveness in the low carbon economy means that the EU is at risk of being overtaken by others. Will the EU be able to withstand increased competition and utilise its ‘first-mover’ advantage? What are the frameworks and policies that the US and China have put in place to boost clean energy development? What are the lessons EU policymakers and businesses can learn from their counterparts and competitors?

To share their expert perspectives on these issues, ECF and Carnegie Europe have invited the Washington-based specialist on China’s energy and climate policy, Taiya Smith, as well as Changhua Wu, Director of the Greater China Programme of The Climate Group in Beijing and Alexandra Sombsthay, China Desk Officer at the European Commission’s DG Energy.
