Civil Liberties in the EU: Are we trading liberty for security?

18 Nov 2009

The Open Society Institute-Brussels and The Centre are delighted to invite you to a debate about civil liberties in the EU. Is the Union a friend or an enemy of civil liberties? And what changes will the Lisbon treaty, with its legally binding charter of rights, make to the delicate balance between liberty and security in Europe?

The discussion will feature Jonathan Faull, Director General of DG JLS, as well as John Kampfner, author of Freedom for Sale: How we made money and lost our liberty, and Heather Grabbe, Director, Open Society Institute-Brussels.

The debate will be chaired by The Centre’s Chairman, Paul Adamson.
